Is your scalp becoming more visible whenever you part your hair? If you are over 40, this can be worrying, but with the right care, proper nourishment, and a few lifestyle changes, you can improve the strength and quality of your hair.
The earlier you care for your hair, the better your chances of keeping it healthy and full for years to come.
3 Ways to Support Healthy Hair After 40
Today, I’m going to show you how to do this with three effective ways. First, a special nourishing oil application. Second, the right food to support healthy hair from within. Third, yoga practices that improve circulation and help nourish the scalp. Let’s begin.
1. Nourish Your Scalp With a Special Hair Oil
First, nourish your scalp with a special hair oil. Your hair begins at the root, so caring for the scalp is one of the most important step.
That is a beautiful traditional combination. In this, brignaraj, amla, and curry leaves are infused in coconut or sésame oil.
Bringeraj is given a lot of value in Ayurved. Amla is rich in natural antioxidants and vitamin C.
Curry leaves contain nutrients that make your hair stronger.
Coconut oil reduces protein loss from the hair shaft and nourishes the scalp, while Sesame oil is nourishing and warming. You can prepare this oil at home.
Take one cup of coconut oil or Sesame oil. Add a handful of fresh curry leaves.
Add one spoon of dried bhrigraja powder or leaves. Add 1 T. Of dried Amla pieces or powder.
Heat the mixture gently on a lower flame, about 15, 20 minutes. See that it doesn’t smoke. Let it cool completely. Strain and store it in a clean glass bottle.
Now, let’s see how to use it. Slightly warm 2-3 table of oil. Using your finger tips, apply section by section on the scalp.
Massage gently for about 10 minutes. Using circular movements, avoid rubbing vigorously.
A gentle massage is enough to stimulate the scalp. Leave the oil at least for one hour.
If convenient, you may leave it overnight. Wash it off with herbal, mild or gentle shampoo. Do this twice every week.
Regular oil massage is good for scalp, hydration, and circulation.
It relaxes the muscles of the scalp and create a healthy environment for a stronger hair.

2. Eat to Nourish Your Hair
Second, eat to nourish your hair. Healthy hair is built from the nutrients you consume every day.
No oil or shampoo can compensate for poor nutrition. Your meals should contain enough protein, iron, healthy fats, vitamin vitamins and minerals.
Let’s see what your daily plate should include. Start with protein. Hair is largely made of protein called keratin.
So every meal should include a good protein source.
Choose food like moong dal, masur dal, tuvar dal, chickpeas, rajma, black chana, soya bean, tofu, paneer, and curd.
Sprouted legumes are also good. Take some form of protein at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Next comes iron-rich food. Iron is good for oxygen delivery throughout the body, including to the hair roots.
Some rich sources are spinach, amaranth leaves, moringa leaves, garden crest seeds, Sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, lentils, black raisins, dates, and jaggrey.
Combine these iron-rich foods with food rich in vitamin C to improve absorption.
For example, squeeze lemon over your dals and vegetables. Include amla, oranges, guava, tomatoes, along with meals.
Healthy fats are also important. They help nourish the scalp and support healthy hair texture.
Include a handful of nuts and seeds every day. Almonds, walnuts, flex seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and Sesame seeds are all excellent.
Take some colorful vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, beetroots, capsicum, broccoli, tomato, and leafy greens.
These provide antioxidants that help maintain healthy cells throughout the body.
Fresh fruits and berries should also be a daily habit. Amla is the best.
Take one fresh Amla or Amla juice every day. I will give you a recipe for a nourishing seed mix.
Take equal quantity of roosted flex seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds.
Grind them and store them in an air-tied container. Add one to two tablespoons daily over your dals, vegetables, and soups.
This provides healthy fats, minerals, and antioxidants that supports overall hair health.
Also, remember that crash diet are not not good for your hair at all because rapid weight loss and skipping meals reduce the nutrients available for healthy hair growth.
Instead, eat balanced wholesome meal at a regular time. Another thing, even mildly, dehydration can affect the health of your skin and scalp, so drink sufficient water throughout the day.
Include fresh coconut water, buttermilk, or lemon water, according to your body’s needs and the season.
3. Practice Yoga for Healthy Hair
Third, practice yoga for healthy hair. Yoga benefits your entire body. You can start slowly by learning and practicing gentle yoga asanas.
Which are good for overall body health. Some yoga postures, especially inversions, are excellent for better blood flow towards the head and scalp.
Let’s look at one of them, shoulder stand. Lie down on your back and gently lift your legs up while supporting your back with your hands.
Breathe normally. You can stay in this position for 2 minutes, but this classical inversion should only be practiced under proper guidance, and only if you have already learned correctly.
People with neck problems, heart conditions, and eye disorders, among other things, should avoid it.
Meditation and pranayams for at least 10 minutes every day will also be very helpful as it calms your nervous system.
Even 20 to 30 minutes daily can make a noticeable difference over time. A calm nervous system positively will influence your hair health.
Daily Hair Care Habits
Now, daily hair care habits, apart from oiling, diet, and yoga, a few simple habits help protect your hair.
Use lukewarm water instead of very hot water, which could be very harsh on your scalp.
While washing hair, avoid excessive heat styling. Do not tie wet hair tightly. Use a wide tooth comb.
Pat your hair dry gently instead of rubbing it vigorously with towel.
Protect your hair from excessive sun exposure whenever possible. Sleep for to 8 hours every night.
The body carries out many repair processes during restful sleep. When it comes to remedies for hair fall, you have to just be patient.
How Long Does It Take to See Results?
Hair grows slowly. Give your routine at least 3-6 months. Small improvements slowly start adding up.
Your hair will feel softer. Your hairfall will reduce. New baby hair begin to appear.
Hair after 40, simply need a little more care and nourishment.
